Laser Printer

Laser Printer

Laser printers are becoming more and more popular even though the inkjet printer still dominates the market in terms of units in place. Though in the past, laser printers have been touted as having better printing capabilities with higher resolutions than inkjet printers, the inkjets are catching up. The main reason to buy a laser printer is to accommodate high-volume printing.

Laser cartridges, on average, yield several thousand pages before needing replacement (compared to the average inkjet’s several hundred). Laser printers also usually print at faster rates than do inkjets. Another bonus of the laser printer cartridge is that, when it says it is empty, you can usually take it out, shake it up, and pop it back in to get even more pages from it.

High-end, color laser printers are another matter entirely. Though they do have a yield advantage over inkjets and are faster, their print quality can be quite amazing. If you do a lot of color printing where quality is paramount, these are some of the best machines you can buy. Inkjet printers are getting much better in terms of color print quality, but they are not quite there yet.

If you decide to buy off-brand or remanufactured replacement toner cartridges, you should take the time to inquire after quality control procedures. Good suppliers have systems in place to ensure the quality of their cartridges rivals that of OEM cartridges, but a small minority of suppliers do not. If you find the right supplier, these cartridges can cut your printing costs by an amazing amount.
