The need for replacement printer cartridges probably initiates half of all trips to office supply stores. While this is more true for inkjet cartridges than for laser cartridges (due to the laser cartridge’s higher yield), laser cartridges eventually run out of “ink” as well. (Laser cartridges actually use a dry, powder toner rather than liquid ink, but the term is still used.)

Laser printers are becoming more and more popular even though the inkjet printer still dominates the market in terms of units in place. Though in the past, laser printers have been touted as having better printing capabilities with higher resolutions than inkjet printers, the inkjets are catching up. The main reason to buy a laser printer is to accommodate high-volume printing.

Epson is perhaps best known for their ubiquitous personal inkjet printers. Epson inkjets are in homes, small businesses, and corporate work-spaces all over the world. They have proven to not be satisfied with this share of the market, though, and have started to focus more energy and resources into specialty printing machines and laser printers.
